A team of Sheffield (UK) printers is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for good causes after announcing its charities for the year.

A team of Sheffield (UK) printers is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for good causes after announcing its charities for the year.

Staff at digital print firm Pinders will be fundraising for Cancer Research UK and the city's Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal throughout this year.

Staff will raise money for the two charities through a range of events, including the Bright Finance Sheffield half marathon, Cancer Research UK's Relay for Life and the Weston Park Hospital dragon boat regatta in June.

Kate Tuckett, a member of Pinders charity committee, said: "We are proud to announce our support for these two charities.

Whilst Pinders has always had a strong charitable ethos, this is the first time we have nominated a charity for the year.

This is a staff-led initiative being supported by the company and we are looking forward to raising lots of money for the charities throughout 2007." Cancer Research UK is the world's leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research, supporting research in to all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 3,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Sheffield's Weston Park Hospital is one of only three hospitals in the UK dedicated exclusively to cancer treatment.

All money raised is used to fund research and improve the care of patients at the hospital.

Last year Pinders' produced two 20-foot boards for the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal.

The four colour information boards tell Sheffielders about the Rose Appeal, the campaign to raise GBP1m to completely refurbish the first floor of the hospital to provide a new chemotherapy suite.

Over the last 12 months the company also raised more than GBP300 for the British Heart Foundation through the Sheffield Santa Dash, donated to Oxfam and carried out work for both Neurocare and the Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.

Support for other local charities will also be continued throughout 2007.
