Sheffield (UK) digital print company Pinders has linked up with a Yorkshire artist to produce works of art for two community projects.

Pinders has used its superwide format Vutek printing press to produce artwork for Paul Clifford from Malton, North Yorkshire.

He is a painter and digital artist whose work explores the boundaries between traditional media and new technology.

His latest project was a themed series of murals on behalf of the politics and economics department at the exclusive Tonbridge School in Kent.

The work was commissioned by the school to mark its victory in a Bank of England competition and was funded from the prize.

The mural details British economic development from the industrial revolution to the present day.

Pinders printed the five panels of Clifford's work on to a textured surface using its Vutek digital press.

The panels are now on display in the school's economic block.

The company has also worked with Clifford on a community art project in Wigan.

The artist was commissioned to produce a digital external mural on specialist materials for John Tiernan House, a youth offenders centre in the town.

Pinders printed the 3.5 metre x 8 metre mural on specially ordered outdoor marine plywood primed boards for durability and effect.

Clifford said: "My process of transforming appropriated material relies upon interweaving layered images, including signs and text, applied in various mixed media to create formal order and structure.

Painting and digital imaging are mainstays of this reworking, often used in combination with print making and up-to-the-minute systems of image transfer." He continued: "I went to Pinders because of its specialism for quality superwide format printing.

I visited the company's studio to carry out some tests and was more than happy with the results.

I'm delighted with the finished commissions and look forward to linking up with Pinders again in the future." David Whiteway, joint managing director of Pinders, said: "When printed, the effects of Paul's artwork is striking.

The two projects highlight the versatility of our print capability, particularly our superwide format Vutek printing press, as well as our continuing commitment to promoting art in the region." The Vuek superwide format digital printing press allows Pinders to produce full coloured, finished, weatherproof graphics directly on to virtually any surface up to two metres wide for projects including photographic backdrops, vinyl banners, packaging, display boards, construction industry boards and point of sale material.
