The Pitney Bowes Comet Series inserter has been developed for the accurate processing of medium to high volume applications, for 'intelligent' mail handling options, claimed the company.

The company said that insertion technology must have the ability to adapt to ever-increasing customer demands for mail-pack creativity and bespoke communications and the Comet inserter had been developed with such flexibility in mind.

David Jefferies, the marketing director at Pitney Bowes commented: "Direct mail continues to achieve healthy response rates and campaigns are becoming ever more sophisticated as marketers compete to win the doorstep battle.

Comet provides mailers with the necessary functions to enable them accept any job and to switch between job-types rapidly.

This is an intelligent, customer-driven addition to our industry-leading portfolio of high volume inserter machines." Comet is said to includes 'intelligent' gripper arms to handle materials of a variety of shapes, sizes and finishes, including business-cards, Z-fold, open end, high gloss and CDs.

The option to use multiple insert feeders provides users with the scope to produce tailored campaigns, said Pitney Bowes.

Operating at up to a claimed 12,000 pieces per hour, Comet will handle half-fold and tri-fold letter applications.

Change-over between jobs, coupled with clear access to mail pieces, keeps production flowing fast.

Comet's operating system uses 'direct connect' to provide accountability with each job run.

That allows for confirmation of accurately inserted material, detects and outsorts duplicate mail pieces and monitors mail piece location throughout the mail creation process, added the company.
