Digital Mailing System For Pricing In Proportion
Pitney Bowes has launched the Pricing in Proportion-ready DM575 Digital Mailing System for mid-volume mailers in the UK.
Pitney Bowes has launched the Pricing in Proportion-ready DM575 Digital Mailing System for mid-volume mailers in the UK.
The DM575 features Pitney Bowes' Weigh-on-the-Way (W-o-W) and Dimensions-on-the-Way (D-o-W) technology, which automatically sizes and weighs the mail-piece before applying the correct postage.
The introduction of Royal Mail's new Pricing in Proportion payment structure has placed an added pressure on businesses to ensure that post is despatched accurately and efficiently, said Pitney Bowes.
For some businesses, cost-savings may be achievable through switching mail to different envelope sizes but for many, PiP will not affect day-to-day communication costs, yet businesses must still be confident that each and every mail-piece is processed accurately.
Using D-o-W technology, the Pitney Bowes DM575 automatically assesses the length, width and thickness of a mail-piece to determine which PiP format it belongs to, eliminating the need to manually check items against a size and thickness template, said the company.
Automation allows all businesses to achieve real efficiencies through more productive mail processing.
The DM575 is enhanced with Intellilink technology, which provides access to a range of services that enable maximum efficiency, it is claimed.
The system is said to enable users to top-up postage funds automatically via a secure connection so that postage is always available and provides the option for downloading the latest postal rates.
For professional presentation, advertising slogans can be downloaded allowing users to customise their envelopes for greater impact.
The DM575 is said to be 'intuitive', reliable and to provide productivity, bringing cost controls, process improvements and accounting functions to the mail centre.
For more extensive reporting or enterprise-wide postage accounting and consolidation, the DM575 can network with Pitney Bowes' Meternet, a PC-based information management system, added the company.
Additionally, the DM575 Series can be connected to other folding and inserting equipment by the Machine Mailing Interface.
Communication between systems means greater productivity with a more efficient process that automatically produces ready to despatch mail, it is claimed.
Stuart Bonthrone, regional vice president for Western Europe at Pitney Bowes, said: "PiP is a radical change to postal processing and one that businesses must be equipped to take advantage of.
For some businesses, PiP will provide obvious cost-saving opportunities through the re-design of communications.
For others, cost-efficiencies will come not from changing the make-up of documents but from the efficient and accurate processing of PiP-ready mail." He continued: "Automation at this stage can save mid-sized businesses time and effort, and it provides a guarantee that their brand values are carried via the professional presentation of their mail.".
