Roy Caslon, the chairman of Hertfordshire (UK) based Caslon, has been confirmed as the new chairman of Picon, the association for suppliers to the industry.

He will hold the position of chairman until June 2007.

Caslon replaces outgoing chairman Martyn Elmy, a director of Marlowe Graphic Services, who will continue as chairman of PrintIT!, Picon's industry-wide initiative to attract youth to print.

John Brazier, the chief executive of Picon, commented: "During his time on the Picon council, Roy has worked tirelessly to support the many varied initiatives undertaken by council.

His years of experience and continued drive and enthusiasm for the industry made him the ideal candidate for the chairmanship and we are therefore delighted that Roy has accepted the challenge of this key industry role." Roy Caslon entered the industry in the early 1960s, when he joined the family business Caslon , which was originally established in 1720 as Type Founders.

Today, Caslon has broadened its products to reflect the latest technology and now supplies a range of machinery and supplies.

Caslon became a member of Picon's council in 1990.

Commenting on his new role as Picon chairman, Roy Caslon said: "I am aware that I have a succession of hard acts to follow and I am delighted that Martyn Elmy will support me until such time as a new vice chairman is appointed by council.

It is my intention to further grow the profile and reputation of Picon within the industry, explore new avenues, continue to foster our networking opportunities and open new doors wherever possible." Outgoing chairman Martyn Elmy, added: "Roy has been a tremendous asset to the council over the past five years and as a member for many years prior to that.

As the outgoing chairman, I am confident that Roy's enthusiasm for championing the initiatives of Picon and the well being of the industry as a whole will be well placed in his new role as Picon chairman.".
