What has been described as a strong and united organisation for the printing and allied industries has been formed by merging Picon and the Association of Printing Machinery Importers (APMI).

According to Picon, the UK association for manufacturers and suppliers to the printing, paper-making and paper converting sectors, the merger, which will take effect from January 1, 2008 will be more closely attuned to the needs of suppliers to today's printing industry George Clarke, Picon's chairman and managing director of Heidelberg UK, commented: "The merger between these two long-established industry bodies marks a significant point in Picon's 60 year history

We have taken the best elements of both organisations to emerge as a stronger and leaner association." Brian Filler, who will take on the role of vice chairman of Picon and who APMI's president and managing director of Screen UK, added: "It's the right time for us to join together.

A merger has been suggested in the past but it wasn't until now that our objectives matched so closely.

It will be a seamless process as the APMI members were already members of Picon." Picon believes that the expanded organisation will continue to be proactive in providing a range of services, information and guidance to its members.

Clarke explained: "Picon assists manufacturers and suppliers on many levels, from guiding them in navigating complex environmental legislation to providing exporting and exhibition expertise and productive networking opportunities.

We are developing a whole new raft of initiatives and will be working closely with our members to ensure that we are a valuable and indispensable service to their business.".
