Proimage has announced strong third quarter sales for Newsway, its browser-based automated newspaper production workflow software.

Proimage has announced strong third quarter sales for Newsway, its browser-based automated newspaper production workflow software In North America the Houston Chronicle, The News-Star, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Tyler Morning Telegraph, Opelika-Auburn News, Naples Daily News, Toronto Sun and The Gazette in Montreal (Canada) are installing Newsway, said the company

Elsewhere, The Deccan Chronicle (India), Sydsvenskan Tryck (Sweden) and Le Groupe de La Provence (France) have also chosen Newsway to improve production productivity.

"We are delighted that our software continues to be selected as the workflow of choice for so many publishers," said Rick Shafranek, vice president of sales at Proimage America.

He added: "The specific needs of newspapers can vary considerably but the flexibility of browser-based Newsway allows us to provide an easy-to-use product that will meet their needs now and in the future.

For example, at the Houston Chronicle, Newsway manages RIPing, page transmission to a remote print plant, automates imposition, burns barcodes on to plates for sorting purposes and is interfaced to a Rockwell system for plate cylinder location data.

It then drives four Agfa Polaris violet CTP units." He also explained that at the Naples Daily News Newsway will manage workflow from the front-end systems through to Agfa 3850 filmsetters.

At the Gazette, the software provides imposition and also bitmap stitches advertisements and editorial content, as well as manages transmission to a remote print plant where it controls output to two KPG thermal CTP machines.

Shafranek continued: "Continual investment in development ensures that we stay ahead of the competition.

Our software cost-effectively integrates existing systems in to one easy-to-use and automated total system.

For the user, drag and drop typology allows workflows to be altered and priorities changed.

Jobs are controlled from pre-press, through plate making to the press management system, from a browser anywhere in the world." He added: "Flexibility, together with the ability to quickly customise workflows to meet specific needs, means that we can automate the most complex of tasks.

Proven reliability and the expertise of our people guarantee that not only do we meet but we usually surpass our customers' expectations.".
