Firms Team Up To Create Newspaper Digital Workflow

Polkadots Software has signed an OEM agreement where ECRM Imaging Systems will take on the Newsflo system to create the Workmates News digital workflow system for newspapers.

Polkadots Software released Newsflo in 2004 and the company claimed it was the only newspaper production workflow on the market to bring the digital integrity of true Rip Once Output Many (ROOM) to all levels of newspaper production.

That includes Ad-Makeup, Page-Makeup and final Page-Pairing.

The company said that Newsflo still guarantees that the printed version will always match the proof, whether it is a web based pixel-on-demand soft proof, or a calibrated hard copy proof printed directly on newsprint.

Newsflo accomplishes all of that whilst maintaining a complete PDF workflow for internet and archive production purposes, added Poladots Software.

ECRM product manager, John Marzec, said: "ECRM Workmates News enables production managers to automate defined tasks, accelerate productivity and instantly become compatible with desired file formats.

Workmates News is also easily expandable, inexpensive and user-friendly, allowing for fast implementation.

Automated PDF Workflows offer several production advantages.

Traditionally, files are received by the RIP, converted to one-bit TIFFs and processed to plates." He added: "With Workmates News, newspapers will be able to capture the file in a PDF format, impose, RIP and proof, as well as preview the file prior to imaging.

This enables files on the RIP to be re-purposed at a later date, saving valuable time in deadline-sensitive operations." ECRM Imaging Systems said it has applied a range of optical, imaging, laser and digital-electronic technology to meet the business needs of its customers.

The Massachusetts (USA) company has sold and supported more than 5,000 computer-to-plate devices and over 27,000 imagesetters in 110 countries around the world.

The company's Tewksbury facility is ISO 9001:2000 certified.
