Pantone Inc has announced the European availability of its Colorvantage pigment-based inks for Epson wide-format printers.

Pantone Inc has announced the European availability of its Colorvantage pigment-based inks for Epson wide-format printers The company believes it is the first to deliver a closed-loop system of products that provide colour output without the high cost and complex systems associated with general-purpose OEM products

Colorvantage inks are claimed to be generally priced at 20 per cent below OEM products, said Pantone.

Colorvantage is described as a family of premium pigmented inkjet inks and specially developed printer profiles.

Aimed at pre-press professionals, printers, sign shops and fine art reproduction houses as well as photographers, advertising agencies and graphic designers, the inks are designed for applications that require the most accurate colour reproduction and the widest range of colour possible said the company.

The Colorvantage ink formulations result in inks that have richer, deeper colours than other inks.

They have been designed to produce a large gamut of colours that offer vibrant, true-to-life reproduction while eliminating colour casts and improving colour reproduction in the midtones and three-quarter tones.

The inks dry quicker, have superior lightfastness and are less prone to colour shifts over time than OEM wide-format printer inks, claimed Pantone.

In addition to photo black ink, Colorvantage also offers light black and matte black inks for both glossy and matte papers, said the company.

The formulation and composition comprise what the company desfribed as an extremely small pigment particle size and they are compatible with OEM inks to ensure that they do not clog print head nozzles.

A variety of profiles for fine art, proofing and photographic papers, including Arches, Infinity, Seiko Epson Corporation, Hawk Mountain Papers, Kodak, Mitsubishi, Moab Paper Company, Premier Art and Red River Paper, are available free-of-charge for registered users from the Colorvantage link at the Pantone website.

New media and profiles are added regularly, added the company.

Helmut Eifert, the vice president of Pantone Europe said: "Colorvantage inkjet inks have been specially formulated to provide high performance results on today's most popular wide-format inkjet printers.

There is a growing number of innovative digital printers that set their print-quality expectations beyond the status quo." Colorvantage inks are available for the Epson Stylus, Stylus Pro and Photo printers, including the 4000, 5000, 7000 and 9000 series.

They are also suitable for Epson-compatible printers such as those from Roland, Mutoh and Mimaki.

Pantone-developed custom printer profiles, included in a starter kit, are for use with the Colorvantage inks and papers to improve colour reliability and provide the largest colour gamut possible.

Printer profile updates will be available at at the Colorvantage link on the Pantone website, added the company.

The inks are available as single cartridges and as starter kits including the complete set of inks required for specific printers.

They are also available in bulk ink bottles for use with continuous ink systems.

They can be ordered via the Pantone website for the Epson Stylus Photo 1270, 1280 and 2200 and the Epson Stylus Pro wide-format colour printer models 4000, 5000, 5500, 7000, 7500, 7600, 9000, 9500 and 9600.

Suggested retail prices for Colorvantage Starter Kits range from 33.75 Euros (GBP 19.52) to 448.03 Euros (GBP 302.71) depending on the printer model.

Individual replacement cartridges start at 10.88 Euros (GBP 7.35), excluding VAT.
