The mainstay of the Pantone vision product line is the award-winning Spyder, an all-digital, seven-filter colourimeter for both LCD and CRT monitors.

The Spyder has eight sensors and seven long-pass filters that allow it to closely match the human eye response, resulting in highly accurate monitor calibration.

To accommodate the anti-glare coatings and mutable nature of LCD monitors, the LCD/CRT Spyder adds an accessory that allows gentle and flat placement on the screen, keeping the suction cups off the surface.

To maintain placement, three clear-moulded parts connect to hold the Spyder centred, keep it flush to the face of the display, and adjust for every size and style of monitor.

It also has a light channel that limits the effect of off-axis light when calibrating LCDs.

Additionally, the software recognises and compensates for the greater variety of response curve shapes when bringing LCDs into calibration.

The Spyder is supported by either PhotoCAL or OptiCAL software.

PhotoCAL has a walk-through of a series of simple steps to deliver precise colour in the widest range the user's monitor is capable of producing.

OptiCAL provides the demanding user with advanced features for adjusting calibration parameters for a single monitor or calibrating multiple monitors to a common standard.
