Pantone Releases Limited Edition Colour Guide

A Pantone UK product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Apr 17, 2007

Colour Inspiration 2007, a limited edition guide of the latest trend colours, has been released by Pantone.

It features 56 new spot colours for graphic designers, brand managers, advertising agencies and printers.

Colour Inspiration 2007 is available, at no additional cost, with Pantone's Formula Guide, or Pantone Essentials purchases.

Pantone said that Colour Ispiration 2007 is based on the company's annual forecast for the home furnishings industry, View Home 2007.

The 56 new spot colours were specially formulated for offset printing and are divided in to eight distinct colour palettes of seven colours each.

Ink mixing formulae and RGB data for re-purposing on the web are provided for each colour.

Helmut Eifert, vice president of Pantone Europe, said: "Graphic designers draw upon a variety of industries for inspiration and colour trend information and home is an area of major influence.

For years, Pantone has provided the home furnishings industry with the trend-setting colour palettes for their market.

Now, for the first time, we are extending this expertise to the graphic design community and offering 56 new colours for offset printing, directly from our forecast service, to further enhance creativity in the graphics industry." The eight colour palettes featured in Colour Inspiration 2007 are Simply Elegant, Classic Chic, Lumens, Melange, Aux Naturale, Grass Roots, Fresh Air and Light Touch.

The bundle also includes Pantone's Colorist software, which is said to provide access to a web-based version of the Inspiration 2007 guide, with CMYK values for the 56 new colours that are viewable in RGB, as well as expanded imagery for each of the eight palettes.

Additionally, Colourist is also said to allow web authors and graphic designers to select the company's Matching System colours from within popular applications that do not already incorporate solid Pantone libraries.

The Essentials kit is said to give designers and printers the tools needed to identify and communicate colour options for use on press runs to ensure accurate colour reproduction.

It includes six products - the Formula Guide (coated, uncoated and matte), the Four-Colour Process guide (uncoated and coated) and the Colour Bridge guide (coated).

Together, the set includes 1,114 solid Pantone Colours in the Formula Guide, over 3,000 chromatically arranged CMYK colour combinations in the Four-Colour Process guide and 1,089 colours alongside their closest four-colour process match in Colour Bridge.

In total they provide more than 5,000 colour effects.
