North Shields (UK) company Potts Printers has secured a world first after placing an order for the new Agfa Avalon B1 violet platesetter with North-East Agfa dealer Inkland.

The machine was launched on February, coinciding with a visit by Potts to Agfa's HQ in Belgium.

Potts placed the order the same day.

News of the order comes soon after Potts' recent order for a new MAN Roland 700 six-colour B1 press, which the company said will enhance the company's competitive edge in the UK business to business commercial and packaging markets.

Shaun Currie, managing director of Potts, said: "We have been in negotiations with Inkland for a number of months with a view to adding a B1 platesetter to our existing Agfa workflow and B2 output.

The new release of the Avalon was perfect timing for us." Inkland managing director, Steve Wilson, added: "I was delighted with the news of the launch of the Avalon.

It fills a gap in our Agfa portfolio and is the perfect solution for Potts plans.

Potts are very comfortable with the Apogee X workflow and this new 30-plate an hour output device will be a bolt on addition to the company's extremely efficient bureau department." Shaun Johnson, the production director at Potts, explained: "We carried out press trials at MAN Roland's HQ in Germany and we were pleased to see Agfa Apogee X workflow feeding their press hall.

This confirmed our continued commitment to Agfa Products." Potts currently supplies commercial and packaging print to local, national and European companies.

The company holds ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 accreditations.
