Imposition Software Puts JDF Admin Link In Reach
"It brings the JDF link from administration to production within the reach of everyone," Alan Dixon, technical director of Positive Focus commented when introducing Preps 5.1 from Creo.
Positive Focus said that the product has rapidly grown by providing variable print production, with its ease of use, portability and scalability.
The latest of version is claimed to embed transparency attributes in the VI print stream with its X-DOT - (XMPie Dynamic Object Transparency) feature and it allows items like semi-transparent drop shadows, a standard feature in In-Design, to be included with variable objects in a dynamic print job, said the company.
The uDirect Standard model is self-contained, single desktop software for Mac or PC using flat-file data.
It can output to PDF and VI formats and so drive engines from any manufacturer.
The Professional model includes uPlan, for interaction with multiple, relational databases, and it also accepts add-in applications, such as uChart for data driven graphics, and the recently released uImage for image personalisation.
Other enhancements in v2.5 include dynamic object styles to create business rules that change an object's fill, stroke, corner, feathering, paragraph style, and other attributes.
Also featured is enhanced visibility object support where layer names are supported, allowing simultaneous control of all layers with names matching a rule.
The table of contents and indexes include dynamic text objects in InDesign's automatically-generated table of contents and index.
Copy fitting can be applied to table cells and all copy fitted cells in a table will have the same final font size.
There is also formatted text import, where RTF and XNIP (XMPie's XML/XLIM-based format) are supported in addition to the InDesign tagged text format.
In addition, uDirect rules can now be imported from another uDirect document.
Existing uDirect Standard users can upgrade to version 2.5 by purchasing a maintenance contract, costing GBP325, before January 10 2006.
Positive Focus said that it is also offering bundles of software, maintenance and training for uDirect, uChart and uImage.
