Apago has just released v3.1 of PDF Enhancer, which is now available in the UK and Ireland from Positive Focus.
Positive Focus said that it is constructing a portfolio of PDF tools, in to which PDF Enhancer fits and the company will show the new product at Ipex 2006 on stand D45 in hall 20.
PDF Enhancer has desktop and server based editions and is said to allow users to automate the assembly, preparation and optimisation of PDFs for print, web and archiving.
It is also claimed to streamline the creation of PDF documents by automating common assembly and preparation tasks that previously required several applications and a lot of manual labour.
Positive Focus said that whether users are producing high quality printed material, an electronic edition of a magazine, a sales brochure, technical document, slide presentation or product catalogue, PDF Enhancer will produce the highest quality, smallest, most reliable PDF documents possible.
Unlike other products PDF Enhancer does not 'redistill' or rasterise the documents as the original quality and fidelity are maintained, added the company.
IPDF Enhancer includes a user interface for merging and assembling multiple documents in to a single PDF.
Users can add any number of documents (any number of times), select an optional range of pages from each file, record them, choose the Enhancer to run and then merge.
Documents can be built from multiple sources or pages re-arranged within a single document.
PDF Enhancer can also convert single and multi-page raster image formats, including TIFF and JPEG, to PDF.
The Macintosh version supports additional raster image formats (PNG, Photoshop, JPEG2000, etc) and when using Panther (Mac OS X 10.3) Postscript (.ps and .eps) also, said Positive Focus.
PDF Enhancer 3.1 Professional and Server editions can create impositions including N-up, step and repeat and booklets.
The output sheet size, margins and gutters can be set along with the number of rows and columns for an N-up imposition, number of copies for step and repeat and the number of 'sheets per saddle' for booklets, it is claimed.
The product provides control over how the source pages are placed including which page box (media, trim and crop, for instance) to use, whether to centre and how much, if any, to scale the page.
Crop marks, centre marks or a page frame can also be specified.
The size and offset of the marks can be set and there is a layout manager where users can create and manage a library of common imposition settings.
PDF Enhancer 3.1 is said to modify the colours in a PDF document by the selection of desired output colourspaces.
PDF Enhancer can convert to black (text-only), grayscale, RGB and CMYK.
Different conversion types can be selected for raster images and vector or text elements, said Positive Focus.
Spot colours can be optionally converted to selected output colourspace or left unmodified.
ICC profiles are fully supported in the Professional and Server versions.
Positive Focus said it can supply all versions of PDF Enhancer for Windows and Macintosh and it has bundles available with Gradual Software's Caslonflow and Switch products.
