The latest version of the Preps software is now available from Uk company Positive Focus.

The company explained that Roundtripping means Preps software imports its own JDF, which preserves the file-list, run-list, signature-list and any offsets created in the original Preps job.

If a job needs to be changed later in the workflow, users open the JDF in Preps, make the changes, and produce a new JDF.

Preps 5.2 is claimed to now match signatures by checking the binding style, total number of unique pages in the signature (in all deliveries), total number of deliveries in the signature, trim size and work style.

That is said to improve the likelihood that the user will pick the signature that the production planner intended.

The software can also use folding pattern, sheet size and head and foot trim as matching criteria, by changing settings in the configuration file.

Preps 5.2 now constructs its list of job notes by reading from the JDF elements.

The additional Jobnotes provide information that can be placed on the final job for greater traceability throughout the product cycle, added the company.

The software constructs its file list and run list by reading the Runlist from JDF.

It also supports JDF 'Targetroute' to allow the sending system to specify the writing location for the resulting JDF.

Preps also now supports JDF with Asian characters in the name and linked files to allow users to work in their native languages.

Users already with a copy of Preps 5.x can upgrade to 5.2 for free, added Positive Focus.
