One of HP's Indigo 5500 presses at Linney Group's Quadrant Offset Printing will use XMPie technology to provide variable data output to drive the production stream RIP and to output PDFs.

Peter Chisholm, Quadrant's operations director, said: "We have invested heavily in the best available technology for our digital print business We spent 18 months researching the market and looking at all available alternatives." He explained: "XMPie has what we consider to be the best credentials to match the hardware we have installed

We can produce anything from mail merge at a fairly basic level through to fully personalised, complex campaigns using image personalisation and dynamic graphics, all within one integrated suite." And Chisholm added: "In our business we never quite know what the next customer will throw at us, so flexibility and adaptability is important.

We also like the scalability of the system, we can add servers to give us more production volume and there is untapped potential for cross-media campaigns, where XMPie has a head start over other applications." Alan Dixon, technical director of Positive Focus, which supplied the system and was responsible for the installation and training, commented: "We worked closely with Darrell Hedge, Quadrant's head of digital solutions and his colleagues to get the system in place as soon as the Indigo press was delivered and we have been involved in some of the discussions with the company's customers, as have HP, to demonstrate the potential to them." He explained: "Building a digital printing business, especially using the newest of technology, can be a difficult task, so we work proactively with clients, such as Quadrant, to make sure they get up and running as quickly and effectively as possible.

Making a proper needs assessment, providing quality training and a helping hand on initial projects, where we can use our considerable production experience, are the plus points that encourage customers to come to us and stick with us." Dixon added that using v3.5 of the XMPie products means Quadrant can incorporate the latest effects within Adobe's Creative Suite 3.
