Prism has finalised a distribution agreement to sell and support the Metrix workflow integration and automation software range from Lithotechnics.

Metrix can operate on Mac OS X and Windows platforms to complement Prism's management information system in the graphic communications industry The Metrix 3.0 family includes Metrix Commercial, Metrix Max, Metrix X-8 and Metrix X-80, each one of which is aimed at different areas of the commercial print market

All editions are available on Mac OS X and Windows and they are claimed to automatically plan and impose flat, folded and bound work, as well as ganged work.

Metrix Max is said to take ganging automation to a higher level by finding the most cost-effective way to print hundreds of jobs across multiple presses.

All editions are also said to import JDF and export imposed PDF.

Select editions can also export various forms of JDF for pre-press and finishing, added Prism.

The Metrix range is available in English, German and Spanish language versions.

Kathy Mitchell, Australasian general manager at Prism, said: "We have been working with Rohan Holt for a good number of years now and have always been impressed with the sophistication of his products and passion for the industry.

We are thrilled to be working formally together to deliver to the market efficient and vital tools that ultimately will deliver greater efficiencies to the shop floor." She explained: "This agreement will allow Prism to provide an expanded integrated service and systems to our mutual clients that builds upon the standard JDF integration.

The printing industry is asking for simple sophisticated tools that provide a new level of automation." Lithotechnics president, Rohan Holt, remarked: "I've been dealing with Prism for over a decade and watched it expand from its roots in New Zealand, through Australia and then in to the UK, South Africa and the USA.

Metrix has been able to receive JDF data from Prism WIN for a few years, reducing data duplication errors and automatically upgrading data to production-quality instructions for pre-press and finishing." He added: "The future of the printing industry requires a whole new level of integration between MIS and production and with this new agreement Prism and Lithotechnics will continue to push this envelope even further.".
