Prism Group has installed its WIN management information system (MIS) at MAN Roland's Westmont, Illinois (USA) Graphic Centre and demonstrated the system.

Prism WIN is responsible for creating the job tickets for all jobs in the Graphic Centre and capturing material, labour and machine costs through its shop floor data capture module Although the primary objective of the Westmont Graphic Centre is to showcase MAN Roland presses, printers today are increasingly looking for how their new presses will integrate in to their overall production workflow systems, according to Prism

WIN is a Windows-based software suite comprised of discrete modules, each providing management and control for a specific process, or functions essential to the printing trade, said Prism.

There are 20 modules to choose from, all fully compatible with the QTMS Production Management System and WIN is written in Microsoft's .NET environment and is available on either Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle databases.

Hal Stratton, the director of new technologies at MAN Roland, explained: "We chose to highlight our integration to Prism WIN because of our long-standing JDF connectivity.

WIN not only provides job ticket information to our presses but also to our Kodak Prinergy pre-press workflow system.

Through Printnet, all of our presses send real-time, JMF messages to WIN of job progress and machine performance.

At the end of a customer demonstration we print out a WIN job cost detail report for the customer.

WIN ties our entire workflow together." And Vince Lapinski, MAN Roland's chief executive officer, commented: "The integration between an MIS and our presses through Printnet is of paramount importance to our customers.

We have led in the early and continued development of JDF, with active roles at the highest levels of the CIP4 organisation - as partner, advisory board member and chairs of the conventional printing sheetfed and web and rotary printing working groups.

We have put our leadership in to action with JDF integration and have 45 proven JDF customer installations working with a variety of MIS products." He continued: "I'm excited to have WIN installed in our facility and demonstrating the advantage of JDF integration.

As a worldwide system and long term participant in JDF connectivity, Prism offers our customers a strong option towards computer integrated manufacturing." Meanwhile, Leland Morgan, the general manager of Prism North America, said: "MAN Roland has always been a technological leader in sheetfed and web presses and Prism has had many technological firsts in management systems over the past 25 years.

Our partnership is a natural extension of the capabilities of each company and will help our joint customers increase efficiency, reduce waste and manage their businesses more effectively.".
