Printcity welcomed over 100 Russian visitors to its food packaging and web offset printing 'connection of competence' Moscow seminars, held at the Marriott Tverskaya hotel.

Attendees on the two seminar days gained best practice knowledge of food packaging and web offset printing technologies and they were able to network with suppliers in those areas and meet with their own industry colleagues.

Printcity said that the seminars allowed a deeper discussion of industry needs, solutions and customer benefits than is possible in a normal exhibition or meeting.

The seminars showed the influence of all materials and equipment used in the supply and production chain, for food packaging and web offset printing.

Seminars of this type bring latest industry knowledge direct to specific customer groups and allow a close interaction between suppliers and customers, to create new business opportunities, added Printcity.

Over two days Printcity alliance members Adphos-Eltosch, Bobst, MAN Roland, MEGTEC, M-real, Sun Chemical, UPM and Weilburger Graphics reported their experiences from the world market and offered best practice knowledge, advice and solutions to Russian food packaging, publishing and printing executives.

In total over 60 senior executives from Russian food packaging listened to the best practice in design, manufacturing and converting of packaging materials for the food industry.

That seminar highlighted legal needs and paperboard material requirements from M-real, hot-foil stamping, die-cutting, embossing and gluing by Bobst, press systems by MAN Roland and HGS and quality ink requirements by Sun Chemical.

UV curing was addressed by Adphos Eltosch and varnishes by Weilburger Graphics.

Over 40 Russian web offset printing executives took part in a seminar involving the latest thinking in web offset printing technology.

During that seminar, there was a full presentation of Printcity's value added printing of newspapers study and the first presentation of Printcity's energy efficiency project, which may well be the main subject in a future European seminar during 2007.

Seminar presentation companies were Adphos Eltosch (UV drying), MAN Roland and HGS (presses), MEGTEC dryers), Sun Chemical (inks) and UPM (paper).

Irina Potselueva of the Extra M printing house, commented about the seminars: "The information given and the organisation was of high quality.

I particularly liked the reports on the combi equipment, dryers and the different kinds of papers." Nadezhda Sidorova of the Mozhaisk Polygraph Complex, added: "At the moment we are implementing heatset technology and it was very interesting for us to attend the seminar." At the same time, Valery Shtolyakov of The Moscow State University of Print explained: "It is extremely useful information for the printing equipment course that I lecture at the University." Bernhard Fritz of Sun Chemical, said: "The food packaging seminar was very well received by the attending packaging printers.

Sun Chemical was busy explaining our concepts to attendees and we do see increased business opportunities in future in Russia." Rauno Niemela of paper supplier UPM, commented: "The Printcity seminar on web offset printing has now taken place in Russia for the fourth time and the attendance rate exceeded our expectations.

It means that the idea of networking and uniting companies providing systems and services for printers works well.

The general participants' feedback was very good.

One of the remaining big opportunities is to follow-up the visitor attendees and respond fully to their requests.

We'll use this opportunity to the full." Printcity organises a range of seminars on topics across the packaging, publishing and commercial printing sectors of the world graphic arts and printing industry.

Other seminars are being planned for 2007 and Printcity said it welcomes invitations to present its members 'connection of competence' through seminars, conference presentations and individual meetings with companies.
