Print Yorkshire, a partnership between Yorkshire Forward and the British Print Industries Federation (BPIF) has been launched to provide a focal point for businesses in the region's print industry.

Print Yorkshire will work hand-in-hand with companies to improve competitiveness, promote their skills and experience, both nationally and internationally and will be supported with funding from Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund.

Already a significant national player, the print industry in Yorkshire makes a £1.35 billion annual contribution to the region's economy and provides direct employment for nearly 20,000 people said Print Yorkshire.

PrintYorkshire said that it aims to ensure that the print and printed packaging sector in Yorkshire and the Humber maintains that position, builds upon its successes and excels as a key element of the digital industries cluster.

Yorkshire and the Humber is investing in key business sectors to accelerate economic growth and encourage higher value added business in the region.

While the print industry is traditionally strong in the region it is believed that there is potential for further growth.

By sharing best practice, encouraging training and development, and enhancing networking opportunities Print Yorkshire aims to create the most productive and profitable print sector in the UK, one that is capable of competing internationally it said.

Director at Print Yorkshire, Mike Hopkins said: "The launch of Print Yorkshire is significant to every print associated business in the region, from the smallest to the very largest.

Print Yorkshire will provide the kind of support that businesses need in order to grow and ensure that other businesses throughout the UK and the rest of the world, understand how much print experience and expertise the region has to offer."
