Print companies in Yorkshire and Humber are being invited to free awareness seminars, which focus on good environmental management practices in January 2005.
Print Yorkshire, a new partnership between Yorkshire Forward and the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) to promote and advance the region's printing and allied industries, will run the seminars with charitable trust, Groundwork Leeds, which has a track record of working in the print industry.
The seminars, at Groundwork's Environment and Business Centre in Morley, Leeds, will send out the message that good environmental management practices can go hand-in-hand with the cost efficient operation of a modern factory.
The sessions, which will run from 9am to 1pm on January 18 and January 26, will involve a series of videos, discussions and group working exercises.
Only a limited number of places are available and demand is expected to be high, said Print Yorkshire, so interested parties are being encouraged to enrol early.
On completing the session delegates should be able to understand that they have obligations under current environmental legislation, see the connection between good environmental practices and good business sense, understand the connection between good environmental practice and the bottom line and be in a position to consider the benefits of an environmental management programme for their companies.
Director at Print Yorkshire, Mike Hopkins explained: "While the majority of the printing industry believes they should adopt good environmental management practice, it is still necessary to 'sell' the benefits so printers appreciate them before committing themselves to a programme of action.
Once we have made printers aware of all the benefits, we will encourage companies to progress down the most appropriate route for them.
Print Yorkshire will offer £500 towards the cost of implementing projects that contribute to better environmental management practices." Print Yorkshire aims to ensure that the print and printed packaging sector in Yorkshire and the Humber maintains its position as a significant national player, builds upon its successes and excels as the region's next key cluster.
By sharing best practice, encouraging training and development, seeking out funding and enhancing networking opportunities, Print Yorkshire said it aims to create the most productive and profitable print cluster in the UK.
