B and B Press (Parkgate) is the first company to benefit from a GBP 500 environmental grant from Print Yorkshire in the UK The Rotherham-based printer recently undertook measures to gain ISO1400 2004 certification and has used the grant to purchase specialist spill kits as part of its environmental certification

Print Yorkshire - a partnership between Yorkshire Forward and the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) to promote and advance the region's printing and allied industries offers GBP 500 grants to printers towards the cost of implementing projects that contribute to better environmental management practices.

It also runs environmental awareness seminars so delegates can understand that they have obligations under current environmental legislation by seeing the connection between good environmental practices and good business sense.

The seminars are also designed to understand the connection between good environmental practice and the bottom line and be in a position to consider the benefits of an environmental management programme for their companies.

Sales and marketing manager at B and B Press, Derek Hurst explained: "As part of the environmental ISO certification you have to prove you can cope with the biggest possible spills on the site so we purchased two specialists spill kits with the grant.

Print Yorkshire is an excellent initiative and it is run in a very professional manner.

I look forward to finding out about other activities and grants available to printers in the region." Print Yorkshire said it aims to ensure that the print and printed packaging sector in Yorkshire and the Humber maintains its position as a major national player, builds upon its successes and excels as the region's next key business cluster.

By sharing best practice, encouraging training and development, seeking out funding and enhancing networking opportunities, Print Yorkshire aims to create the most productive and profitable print cluster in the UK and internationally.
