Print Yorkshire, the partnership to bring buyers and sellers of print and packaging print together in Yorkshire and Humber in the UK, has appointed a senior executive to manage the initiative.

Print Yorkshire, the partnership to bring buyers and sellers of print and packaging print together in Yorkshire and Humber in the UK, has appointed a senior executive with direct experience in both roles to manage the initiative Robert McClements is to take the reins of the Print Yorkshire initiative, working closely with BPIF's Mike Hopkins and Print Yorkshire president Victor Watson CBE

Victor Watson commented: "This role demands a strong understanding of the needs of both the print and allied industries and of our customers, the print buyers.

With Robert McClements we have someone with very real experience on both sides - as a buyer in the advertising industry and as a managing director with major print and publishing groups.

He brings depth of knowledge and vital contacts to the role which will be fundamental to achieving Print Yorkshire's objectives." With 20 years' experience in business management, Robert McClements has held managing director roles with screen printing, litho and web print firms and has worked both in-house and in consultancy with major advertising and marketing groups.

He is also a vice president of the Yorkshire Publicity Association.

McClements said: "I am delighted to be combining my passion for the print industry, with my experience in business management and marketing.

This region has a wealth of talent in print and allied technologies and is home to some of the UK's most prolific buyers of print.

We already make a substantial GBP 1.35 billion contribution to the region's economy and provide direct employment for nearly 20,000 people.

Print Yorkshire aims to utilise those strengths for nearly 20,000 people.

Print Yorkshire aims to utilise those strengths to develop more print business in Yorkshire and Humber and further strengthen the region's economy." The initiative, he added, was a clear example of the cluster theory of economics at work.

McClements continued: "As business development director at one of Europe's leading business schools, Bradford University School of Management, I had the opportunity to learn from colleagues who had worked with Harvard business guru, Michael Porter.

It makes complete strategic sense to form geographical centres of excellence in particular fields, which then create alliances and do business with other sector industries within that same geographical centre, which creates massive efficiencies, shared skills bases and mutual business benefits.

My role at Print Yorkshire is to work with the industry and exploit those advantages.".
