Print Yorkshire Launches Plans For Showcase 2006

To celebrate the success of the printing industry in Yorkshire (UK) Print Yorkshire hosted an executive briefing for the top players in the printing world this week at the Yorkshire Post building.

To celebrate the success of the printing industry in Yorkshire (UK) industry body Print Yorkshire hosted an executive briefing for the top players in the printing world this week at the Yorkshire Post building.

Attendees included international delegates from nine different countries and included personnel from Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses.

The briefing also acted as a forum to address key industry issues and launch Print Yorkshire's Showcase2006 event.

The briefing followed the publication of a new report that revealed Yorkshire's top 50 printers and it also highlighted that the regional print industry is at the forefront of UK printing, said Print Yorkshire.

The evening included a series of speakers followed by a tour of the Yorkshire Post printing press hall.

Robert McClements, director of Print Yorkshire, presented statistics that showed that within the region, the industry has over 1,240 printing companies employing a total of 20,000 people.

With an annual turnover of approximately GBP1.35billion the print industry creates significant wealth in the region, he added.

After an introduction from Victor Watson CBE DL, the president of Print Yorkshire, McClements spoke about the impact of Print Yorkshire within the region, Yorkshire as a world class manufacturer for print, new business opportunities and the challenges and opportunities of new technology.

Victor Watson, said: "Print Yorkshire's impact within the region has been phenomenal, we have provided over 50 grants in the past year, keeping the region ahead of the competition." Dawn Sweeney, advertising sales director for the Yorkshire Post, spoke at the event about the importance of the print industry within the UK.

McClements also launched Showcase2006, which he hopes will following the success of the first UK print buyers' conference, Showcase2005.

For this year's event, Print Yorkshire has announced an expanded and enhanced exhibition and conference with speakers from the USA and the UK for 2006.

He said that the event is the UK's only dedicated forum for print buyers and sellers, allowing them to come together and share best practice and new innovations.

McClements added: "Tonight has given everyone present a glimpse in to the success of the Yorkshire region's printing and packaging industry.

Showcase is the perfect forum not only to celebrate the thriving industry, but also to provide a platform to network and create new business opportunities.

The event has fast created a name for itself within the industry and we have already received much support for this year's event.

A third of exhibitors have booked their stand space and we have secured repeat sponsorship from Yorkshire Bank and Oce." New sponsors to come on board also include SCR Envelopes.
