Stationers' Company Moves In To Support PrintIT!
PrintIT! has announced that The Stationers' Company Educational Charity has become a key partner.
PrintIT!, the UK industry-wide initiative launched to raise the profile of the printing industry and encourage young people to take up a career in printing, has announced that The Stationers' Company Educational Charity has become a key partner.
The Stationers' Company Educational Charity has pledged significant funds to the initiative, and joins the existing PrintIT! key partners, which include the BAPC, the BPIF, The Fairtrade Foundation, IPEX 2006, Picon, Robert Horne Group, the Specialist Schools Trust, and Wyndeham Press Group.
Kevin Dewey, chairman of The Stationers' Company Educational Charity, commented: "We are delighted to be able to support PrintIT!, as its aims are very close to our own.
One of the main purposes of the charity is to support young people who are interested in pursuing a career in print, and by being a partner of PrintIT! we are becoming part of what is a very exciting and dynamic effort to foster enthusiasm for the printing industry in young people." Martyn Elmy, chairman of Picon, the originators of the PrintIT! scheme, said: "It's an honour to have the Stationers' Charity behind PrintIT! and its support will help us to take the initiative from strength to strength.
This is a great example of how traditional organisations are looking to the future, and finding new ways to attract young people in to our vibrant industry.
To date, PrintIT! has received an excellent response right across the industry, and we are now at the exciting stage where we are communicating with schools and producing the PrintIT! Teaching Pack." As the first phase of the schools communication programme, letters of introduction have been distributed to head teachers and heads of graphics in all schools throughout the UK, outlining the PrintIT! initiative.
The PrintIT! Teaching Pack, which is in production, will be ready for distribution to participating schools during the summer.
The pack will include fully interactive multi-media software in the form of Printdynamics, developed by Polestar, and a series of detailed lesson plans, outlining the key elements of the print process from concept through to final output.
PrintIT! believes that interactive presentations and downloadable documents will enable teachers to deliver exciting and comprehensive information on all aspects of print, educating students about the industry and equipping them with the knowledge to enter the PrintIT! competition and compete for over £100,000 of prizes.
The PrintIT! team will be proactively contacting schools over the coming weeks.
