Canon UK, a leader in digital imaging technology, is the latest high-profile industry sponsor to provide a substantial cash donation and offer further additional support to the PrintIT! project.
Canon UK's aim in supporting PrintIT! is to demonstrate its support for the digital print industry of tomorrow.
The company shares the concerns held throughout the industry as a whole, that print is in need of new blood if it is to continue to grow.
Like its counterparts in the industry, Canon wants print to appeal to the IT-savvy youth market, by demonstrating that, through digital technology, the print industry offers exciting career opportunities.
Adam Poole, marketing manager, professional solutions, Canon Business Solutions, Canon UK, enthused: "The UK print industry is based on many years' experience and skill, and with the advance of digital technology, the need for traditional print skills to evolve has become ever more important".
"Canon UK believes that, as a sponsor of PrintIT!, we need to work together to help safeguard the existing skills and look to the future in order to drive growth within the increasingly competitive market".
"By supporting this venture, Canon hopes to encourage a workforce of the future and further demonstrate our commitment to help the whole industry flourish".
Martyn Elmy, chairman of PrintIT!, added: "It is both refreshing and reassuring to welcome new sponsors like Canon UK , who share the same goals and aspirations for the future of our industry, to the PrintIT! team".
"This pioneering industry-led initiative to spread the message to youngsters while gaining the commitment of schools to run PrintIT! as part of their GCSE Graphics Products Course, requires a great deal of resources, as well as the constant commitment and support of the industry at large".
"Whilst we have attracted over £200,000 worth of industry sponsorship to date, the considerable interest from schools has meant that the scope of the PrintIT! project has outweighed our initial expectations".
"We are therefore still hoping other organisations will join the project and be part of this exciting scheme".
He continued: "This latest sponsorship from Canon UK will add further momentum to the project and will help us to achieve our goal of a modern, vibrant and young print industry".
