Sun Chemical is the latest major company in the graphics industry to enlist as a key sponsor of PrintIT.

Sun Chemical is the latest major company in the graphics industry to enlist as a key sponsor of PrintIT.

The company is providing a cash donation to the industry-wide national initiative to encourage young people to embark on careers in the printing industry.

PrintIT said that the signing of Sun Chemical brings on board the world's largest producer of printing inks, organic pigments, colourants and coatings and brings the total number of key sponsors to 20.

Sun agreed to become a sponsor after a presentation from Kevin Dewey of the Educational Charity of The Stationers' and Newspaper Makers' Company.

David Meldram, president of Sun Chemical Inks, Europe, said: "We like the fact that PrintIT is a really original concept.

By asking students to design a print-based campaign for The Fairtrade Foundation, it makes them explore what it is that makes print such a special communications medium.

Our products are essential to successful print, and PrintIT deserves our backing." Martyn Elmy, chairman of PrintIT, welcomed Sun Chemical's decision: "It is further evidence that PrintIT continues to fire the industry's enthusiasm for the first concerted effort to create the young, skilled workforce that will take the industry forward.

The commitment of Sun Chemical and all our sponsors to support PrintIT in our inaugural year is vital for the initiative's successful debut and gives us a firm footing for future years.".
