When the organiser of the second phase of the PrintIT! initiative was looking for a new design for the teachers course book and students work book, Tring (UK) design agency GVMC was quick to create the ideal scenario.

GVMC came up with a proposal that maintained the overall visual identity yet offered a stronger resonance with schools.

Following a brief from Picon, the PrintIT! founder and organiser, GVMC created a design that retained the identity of the books used in year one of the scheme, but which gave them a new look, whilst incorporating new features.

Both of the 20-page A4 books are saddle stitched.

GVMC creative director Nick Vince, said: "We were extremely impressed by the whole concept of the PrintIT! initiative and the work being done by so many different people to make it succeed.

A significant amount of the design work we produce is connected to printing, so the industry is close to our hearts.

As an agency we face the same challenges in attracting young people of a high calibre so we were delighted to be able to help redesign the PrintIT! books for year two of the initiative." Paul Evans, project director of PrintIT!, commented: "We were extremely grateful to GVMC for its very creative approach to the project and its offer to undertake the work for free.

The new teachers' course book and students work book have been extremely well received.

We didn't want to move away completely from the original design, but we recognised that there was a need for a fresh feel that youngsters would identify with.

I think GMVC is a good example of the spirit that so many companies in the industry have shown in helping to first get PrintIT! off the ground and then to keep the initiative going." GMVC will handle every aspect of a job, from concept and design through to creating a strategy and communications plan, as well as project management, print buying and direct mail.

The company provides exhibitions and events, as well as video and multi-media services.

GMVC produces work for household names such as Kodak and Philips.
