Print Students Trip Of A Lifetime To Caribbean

Three students from Northgate High School in Ipswich (UK) who were the best overall winners of PrintIT! 2006, have just reaped the benefits of their hard work with the trip of a lifetime.

Three students from Northgate High School in Ipswich (UK) who were the best overall winners of PrintIT! 2006, have just reaped the benefits of their hard work with the trip of a lifetime.

The successful students, Rosie Whinney, Laura Prime and Keiran Peck, their design and technology teacher Michael Gaffney and form teacher Kate Betts, enjoyed a six-day trip to the Windward Islands in the Caribbean as part of their prize.

The youngsters were accompanied by Veronica Pasteur of the Fairtrade Foundation and were joined in the islands by three local schoolchildren.

During the course of the trip the students gained an understanding of the lives of the islanders and learnt how the Fairtrade Foundation helps to eliminate poverty in the area.

PrintIT! is an initiative led by Picon the UK association of suppliers and manufacturers to the printing industry to raise the profile of the all aspects of print to students throughout the country, so that they understand how print affects our lives and may consider the industry for work when they leave school or college.

Martyn Elmy, chairman of PrintIT!, said: "These three youngsters had put a tremendous amount of thought and effort in to their PrintIT! entry.

For them to see how people live in a totally different part of the world and learn how the Fairtrade Foundation helps these people by reducing poverty was the perfect first prize.

The trip is something the students will never forget.

It has also given them a greater understanding of how print fits in to our everyday lives and hopefully made the printing industry an option for them in their careers in the future.".
