Polestar Colchester has hosted an educational visit for journalism students from Harlow College.

Polestar Colchester has hosted an educational visit for journalism students from Harlow College.

The students were personally shown all aspects of the site from pre-press through to printing and binding by managing director Jim Algar and his team.

The visit was arranged as part of the promotional activity for the 2004 magazine academy competition, which is a joint initiative from the Periodical Training Council (the training arm of the Periodical Publishers Association), UPM, the printing papers producer, and Polestar.

Journalism students regularly produce magazines as part of their course work, but rarely see them in a professional format.

Magazine academy offers such an opportunity, as magazine publishing industry professionals judge the student magazines entries and the winning magazines are then printed onto UPM publishing papers by Polestar.

Janice Bhend, course tutor for journalism studies at Harlow College, said: "The students really enjoyed the visit to Polestar to see how the printing process works, which will provide invaluable knowledge for them in their future careers.

If lucky enough to be one of the finalists, the magazine academy competition also provides them with an excellent opportunity to have professional copies of their work produced for their portfolios which they can then show to future employers.".
