The first of four new seven-station Ferag Unidrum gatherer-stitcher systems is being installed at Polestar Petty.

A second Unidrum line will follow it in one month's time, with the third and fourth lines arriving in June.

All will be in production eight weeks after their respective installation dates.

Maximum output of the equipment is 30,000 copies per hour, and the additional capacity provided will enable Polestar Petty to produce the eight time-sensitive weekly magazines currently printed at the plant, together with the titles transferring from Polestar Watford, said the company.

The company will also be able to handle more commercial work.

Mike Bartlett, Polestar group operations director, said: "With an investment project of this scale, it is important to select the best equipment for your immediate and future needs.

With the Ferag lines, we have greater capacity and flexibility on size of product, higher levels of productivity and performance, and a range of value-adding options including wrapping, glue-card insertions and re-appliable label application." In January 2004, Polestar ordered a total of six Unidrum 3-420 systems for its UK Print operations.

The order represents Ferag's single largest order for gatherer- stitcher lines and the company is providing a dedicated maintenance resource via its UK subsidiary WRH Marketing UK.
