Six employees from Polestar Chantry Bindery at Middleton Grove, Leeds (UK), have been awarded the City and Guilds 5260 print finishing accreditation, under the Print Out Your Future project.

Gary Wheeler, Walter Lygo, Ivy Elgar, Lee Charlesworth, Steve Duck and Ann Palmer have undertaken 12 months practical and theory work, which they completed both at college as well as in their own time.

Ann Palmer also received a second award for Personal Effort and Commitment.

Run in partnership between the Leeds College of Technology and GPMU, places on the course were offered to Yorkshire-based companies for the first time.

Due to the excellent feedback received from this initial intake, Polestar Chantry Bindery is working with the College to offer all employees the chance to gain academic qualifications and skills for life.

Currently 35 employees have signed up to the course, with initial inductions currently taking place.

Steve Shaw, Bindery Manager, said: "I am very impressed with the commitment shown by all participants and their enthusiasm and dedication should be an inspiration to all of us." Polestar has recently become a registered approved centre for City Guilds qualifications, including NVQs and is expecting to register in the region of 500 employees for NVQs.

Polestar said that with its structure, the accreditation allowed the Group to combine its resources to provide assessment across different locations, whilst retaining its head office training department as the centre.
