The International Federation of the Periodical Press (FIPP) and the European Federation of Magazine Publishers (FAEP) have updated the publication, 'Magazines and the Environment'.

Sponsored and produced by Polestar, it is said to be the only international book of its kind.

It highlights areas of current and possible future concerns, while suggesting industry action to minimise any process that might be harmful to its surroundings.

The publication contains in-depth analysis of paper sourcing, production and usage, with recovered paper, digital workflows and efficiencies of distribution recognised as areas where the industry can contribute to the continuing success and acceptability of magazines.

Polestar Colchester printed the 80 pages of text, whilst Polestar Anglia produced the four-page cover.

As a member of the WWF-UK Forest ? Network, Polestar said its procurement policies fully support the Group's objective to be an environmentally responsible company, whilst retaining its position in the production of magazines.

Jayne Jones, group marketing manager at Polestar explained: "The environment is now on everyone's agenda and we are working with customers to ensure we are able to achieve environmentally friendly production levels that mirror their own strategies.

This latest publication from FIPP provides a wealth of information to all those involved in the supply chain and enables them to have a greater understanding of what can be done to improve the sustainability of magazines as an environmentally friendly media." The magazine is distributed free to all FIPP members, with additional copies available at a cost of £35.00.
