Andrew Jones, managing director of Polestar Sheffield - the new greenfield gravure super site, has resigned and left the group.

Polestar Group human resources director Catherine Hearn said: "Andrew joined the company from outside the industry and has spent a number of weeks assessing the complexity of printing particularly in the context of our greenfield development.

Unfortunately, he has decided that this is not for him.

While we are disappointed, we respect his decision and think it is better that we have someone who is fully engaged with the challenge.

I think it is easy to under estimate how difficult it is to join the industry, yet at the same time we need new ideas and new talent.

Recruitment of his replacement has begun and we will again look both within the industry and outside for the right person." In the meantime, Mike Young remains project managing director for Polestar Sheffield and will continue to oversee the development of the plant, supported by an internal team to ensure the project remains on schedule.

Installation of the pre-press equipment begins this month, after Polestar formally took over the area from its development partner Gazeley last week.

Work on the press bases for the three Cerutti machines has also begun, and the plant is on course for completion in December said the company.
