Polestar Chantry's Four Magazine Contracts

The Polestar Group has been awarded contracts for two high quality monthly magazines ­ Red and Elle - published by Hachette Filipacchi.

The group has also retained the contracts for Elle Girl and B, which it has been producing for the publisher at Polestar Chantry for the last 12 months.

Printing and binding of Red and Elle will also be carried out at the Wakefield (UK) company.

Production of Red magazine started last month on Polestar Chantry's 32-page M600 press, with perfect binding carried out at its newly developed finishing facility.

Steve Campbell, key account director at Polestar Chantry, said: "Representatives from Hachette Filipacchi attended the production of the first issue and were impressed with the consistency of colour achieved throughout.

We are very pleased to have won these two prestigious new magazines, which we believe reflect both the service we have provided on Elle Girl and B as well as the successful relationship with are developing with the publisher." £10 million of Polestar's True North investment programme was allocated to the development of the new finishing and mailing facility at Polestar Chantry, bringing stitching facilities in to the company's portfolio for the first time.

The first phase of the development is complete, including occupation of a new 52,000 square foot unit adjacent to the printing operation, the installation of two new Sitma 950 mailing lines and a new Muller Martini Corona perfect binder said the company.

Campbell added: "For the first time, Polestar Chantry has its finishing services on site.

As a result, we are able to maintain greater control of the process, from paper in to mailing out, which is obviously beneficial to both our customers and the company." By June 2005, a further three Muller Martini perfect binders and one Sitma 570 mailing line will join the new finishing equipment.

They will be housed in a new 110,000 square foot unit, construction of which will be completed in March added Polestar.
