The Polestar Group is rolling out its interactive training programme, Print Dynamics, to secondary schools in England.

Working in partnership with the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies (SEMTA), the CD-based initiative will be distributed to 10,000 schools over the next six months.

A link to the website has been added to enable pupils and teachers to access any updates made to the programme.

In addition, SEMTA is writing lesson plans and schemes of work for the teachers to use when delivering it said Polestar.

Announcing the national launch earlier this week, Lord Trefgarne, the chairman of SEMTA, praised Polestar for its proactive approach in bringing together working and learning in schools.

He said: "To meet our current and future skills needs, we must make young people choose careers in science, engineering and industry.

Print Dynamics shows a vast and exciting world and answers many questions that young people have about printed and packaged products." Polestar chief executive Barry Hibbert said: "With support from SEMTA, our objective is to help young people put their learning in the context of real jobs and we hope that Print Dynamics will open up the industry for all to see.

Getting our own internal training systems in place is vitally important but what the sector needs is enthusiastic young people choosing the printing industry for a career." The launch event was attended by over 40 people, including representatives from Polestar's partners on the Print Dynamics initiative, Sun Chemical and UPM, one of the world's largest paper manufacturers.

On a day-trip to London were pupils from the Sir Henry Cooper School in Hull, who had beta-tested the programme earlier this year.

Headmaster Stuart Sherman said: "Print Dynamics brings the workplace to the classroom, with information available to read, see and copy.

It can be followed at the pupil's convenience and also that of the teacher, who can stop or start it when necessary.

It is also easy for a pupil to recap if a lesson is missed.

We cannot obtain this level of interactivity on a school trip." Print Dynamics is also distributed via the Times 100 careers guide, which is issued to all secondary schools in the UK.
