Polestar Sheffield has won its second health and safety accolade, this time from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

Polestar Sheffield has won its second health and safety accolade, this time from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The company has now collected a gold achievement award at the annual RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards event.

The winners are decided by a panel comprising representatives from RoSPA, the National Examination Board in Occupational Health and Safety, the Health and Safety Executive and a number of industry representatives.

The level of award is decided after a review of submitted evidence, based on achievement and commitment to health and safety management.

Collecting the award on behalf of the company, John Holland, SHE Systems Co-ordinator at Polestar Sheffield, said: "This competition is designed to recognise the highest standards of health and safety within industry.

To receive a gold award just over a year after commissioning the first equipment on site is a fantastic achievement and one of which we are extremely proud." Polestar Sheffield managing director, Mike Young, added: "We work hard at Sheffield to exceed expectations in all areas and we are delighted to have our success in health and safety management acknowledged at the highest level." The awards were established in 1956, when the first winner was HM Factory Inspectorate.

Joining Polestar Sheffield in winning a gGold award this year were organisations from other industries, including Exxon Mobil, South East Water, United Utilities and Costain, together with high-street names such as Nationwide Building Society, Avon Cosmetics and HBOS plc.

In October 2005, Polestar Sheffield won its first health and safety award to become 'regional industries champions' 2005.

The company's success saw it through to the national finals, in which it was awarded third place.
