Polestar Sheffield has added two environmental accreditations to its list of achievements.

The company has been awarded ISO 14001 and has become the second Polestar Group company in as many months to be awarded FSC accreditation.

Polestar Sheffield managing director, Paul Erickson, said: "Successful businesses have sound environmental policies and procedures as increasingly, customers require information and confirmation of environmental management before contracts are awarded.

Our achievement of both ISO 14001 and FSC accreditation is a demonstration of our commitment and gives comfort to existing and potential customers that they are associating themselves with an environmentally friendly supplier." He continued: "That we have achieved these so quickly is a testimony to the hard work and continued drive and focus of all those involved.

It is also confirmation that Polestar UK Print, of which Polestar Sheffield is part, sets the standard for the industry in more ways than one." ISO 14001 forms part of ISO 14000, a series of voluntary standards and guideline reference documents.

14001 covers environmental management compliance and control, including tasks such as monitoring and measurement, operational control, emergency procedures, environmental records, correct waste management, communications and training.

The FSC Chain of Custody accreditation ensures that the timber produced in certified forests can be traced through to the end user.

The certification involves an assessment by an independent, qualified and accredited expert.

Each company, from the manufacturer through to the printer, is a link in the chain and therefore has to undergo its own certification process.

That provides customers with the opportunity to label their products with an FSC chain of custody number and logo.
