Third Polestar Firm Wins Forest Stewardship Award

Polestar Petty has become the third site within Polestar to achieve chain of custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

The company has also become the second to gain programme for the endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), following its fellow Leeds (UK) group company Polestar Direct, which was accredited with both FSC and PEFC last December.

Polestar Sheffield was awarded FSC status in January.

Polestar Petty managing director, Chris Bowen, said: "Our high standards of paper handling through the existing ISO9001 quality standards have enabled us to achieve this accreditation and we are delighted.

The number of customers wishing for their products to be printed on FSC or PEFC paper is increasing as they become more aware of the need to protect the environment.

This accreditation enables Polestar Petty to meet these requirements." He continued: "This is formal recognition that Polestar Petty is applying the necessary processes and controls to meet our customers' demands for the environmental management of paper from forest to finished product." Radio Times, which is printed at Polestar Petty, has carried the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) logo since 2004 - certifying that the timber used to make the paper on which the magazine is printed, comes from well-managed forests.

Of Polestar Petty's certifications, BBC Magazines' procurement and deputy production director, David Halford, said: "We congratulate Polestar Petty on its FSC accreditation.

It is an excellent testimony to the company's hard work but it also reflects the support the company has given our own environmental policy for a number of years.
