Polestar is bringing together its specialist printing services and business services to offer a complementary suite of services to customers.

Its Applied Solutions, Wheatons and Direct businesses will be combined to form the new sector, with Applied Solutions being retained as the name.

Derek Kemp has been appointed managing director of the combined business.

He joined Polestar on April 30 from Charteris, where he led the financial services and media practice.

He was also formerly the managing director of the telecommunications and media business and a member of the UK board of LogicaCMG.

As managing director of Polestar Applied Solutions, Kemp's role is to integrate and expand Polestar's software, digital printing, print management, direct mail and ancillary outsourcing options, said the company.

The combined business currently has a turnover of GBP45m and provides services to clients in publishing, retail and the travel industry.

Kemp and his team will develop the strategy to increase market penetration and provide new services to its customers.

Polestar Group chief operating officer, Catherine Hearn, said: "Wheatons, Direct and Applied Solutions were each offering services and products separately and in some cases to the same customers and markets.

By bringing them together, we can provide a complete range of specialist services, thereby strengthening our relationships with customers and increasing our market share." She continued: "I am delighted to welcome Derek to Polestar.

I am sure that his experience and skills in strategic business development will ensure the continuing success of this business.".
