It is double celebration time for Prontaprint Gloucester (UK) as the centre celebrates 25 years in business and 25 years' service from the centre's production manager, Gary Evans.

Evans, who was recently awarded for his achievement at Prontaprint's national conference, has seen the business evolve over the years with advancements in new technology and a growing client base.

"Over the years our business has changed a great deal.

We used to rely heavily on walk-in customers, calling in for their copying and printed letterheads and so on.

We would even welcome the odd knitting pattern," he recalled.

"Back in 1980 we could only produce single colour print jobs that took time to set up and complete.

Typesetting was painstakingly produced before finally reaching the printing press - a job could take days to turn around.

It was a far cry from today's studio techniques, where using the latest computer to plate technology and digitally networked equipment, we produce high quality documents for all our clients at all times." The past 18 months have seen the biggest changes for the print-on-demand business with a relocation to new premises just off the Bristol Road in Gloucester.

The move has taken the centre in to a new era of high tech digital printing and design technology, it believes.

Explained Richard Currie, the centre's owner: "Thanks to the relocation we now boast a large production facility with everything from traditional litho presses to the very latest digital colour technology.

We also have an sophisticated design studio that provides businesses in Gloucester with a wide range of communication materials, including large format printing, creative design, business copying and document finishing.

Our modern technology enables us to create fantastic products that regularly surpass client expectations." He added that perhaps the only thing not to have changed over the 25 years is the centre's emphasis on customer service.

"We take pride in the excellent working partnerships we have developed with all of our clients over the years, whether it's a sole trader or a multi-national blue chip company.

Today the demands on our clients are very different but we have a dedicated consultancy area where clients can discuss their own individual requirements with highly experienced sales staff.

We can even visit our clients in their place of work so they can take advantage of our services from their own desk," continued Currie.
