Responding to the global movement toward standardisation of asset management processes, Quark has joined the Global Society for Asset Management (G-SAM) as a principal founding member.

Responding to the global movement toward standardisation of asset management processes, Quark has joined the Global Society for Asset Management (G-SAM) as a principal founding member The membership gives Quark a vote on the 21-member board, which represents a cross-section of asset management users and vendors

G-SAM's goals are to promote open standards that encourage inter-operability between systems; demonstrate best practices across multiple vertical industries; share lessons learned on a global front; collect and share information from leaders in the field and identify the potential for evolving areas of asset management.

"With our publishing experience, we understand customer needs from concept to output.

We're looking forward to sharing our knowledge with G-SAM members, learning from their experiences, and ultimately influencing the future of digital asset management," said Cliff Kaplan, Quark's vice president of custom solutions.

The company said that since 2000 it had developed products to help businesses meet the need to create, manage, and distribute content efficiently.

Quark's productss are built on the Quark digital media server platform, which takes advantage of trusted technologies from the industry's leading vendors and standards organisations, and is used daily in media, catalogue and corporate production.

As a member of G-SAM, Quark said it increases its commitment to opening a dialogue among users, vendors, and system integrators in order to establish uniform, cost-effective practices for integrating digital asset management into enterprise content workflows.

"The hallmark of Quark's digital asset management and custom publishing solutions is our support of open standards.

Using standards like XML and Web services, we can provide Web access for managing, reviewing, and routing any type of digital file," continued Kaplan.

G-SAM is a not for profit professional trade association, that exists to promote the development and adoption of technologies to manage, protect and create value from digital assets.

The group promotes integrated products and processes that support interoperability and open standards that will drive adoption and user acceptance of digital asset management (DAM) and related technologies with over 150 corporate members worldwide.

Principal founding members of G-SAM include Avid Technology, IBM, Ascent Media, Artesia Technologies, Sony, Wam!Net and Harris Corporation.
