Swansea Institute of Higher Education is to upgrade to QuarkXPress 7 across its faculty of art and design.

Swansea Institute of Higher Education, a member of the University of Wales and an approved centre for BTEC Higher National and NVQ programmes, is to upgrade to QuarkXPress 7 across its faculty of art and design.

Swansea Institute has been a user of QuarkXPress for many years.

The faculty of art and design at Swansea Institute has an international reputation and has been recognised as a major centre in Wales for art, craft, design and media studies, added Quark.

Gavin Kirby, lecturer art and design at Swansea Institute, said: "We need to make our students as employable as possible and QuarkXPress 7 is the cornerstone of that.

The industry demands QuarkXPress for the vast majority of jobs and it is for this reason we teach QuarkXPress in our design for publishing classes." He added: "We want to ensure that our students are equipped with the best possible skills so that they have the best opportunities when they enter the marketplace.

As far as we're concerned, QuarkXPress 7 will give them everything they need to succeed." Kirby continued: "The new job jackets feature in QuarkXPress 7 is a massive leap forward in functionality, and it will have an enormous impact on the way we work.

Students will be able to review their work at any stage, which will give them much greater visibility on their progress.

In addition, they will have the ability to collaborate on projects that will enhance their overall learning experience." And he explained: "The pre-flighting capabilities in the job jackets technology will simplify the grading and record-keeping process for lecturers.

More importantly, it will save them both time and effort.

This really is revolutionary." Quark said it continues to demonstrate its commitment to education by offering students, administrators, and educators special volume pricing on QuarkXPress through the Quark education programme.

The Quark Interactive Designer is available for download to qualified educational users of QuarkXPress 7 at no additional charge and it is claimed to enable students to express their creative ideas without having to learn multiple applications and design methodologies.

The company added that today's job market needs a generation of designers who can create content for all channels - print, web and interactive.

Ed Ewing, Quark's sales director for northern Europe, said: "We are delighted to see more institutes of higher-level education move to QuarkXPress 7, especially one of the Swansea Institute's reputation.

Quark recognises the need to make education a priority and the importance of collaborating with universities and institutes to better understand their needs and the challenges of teaching.

Like Swansea Institute, Quark is committed to developing software that will give students the skills that are essential to succeed in the design industry today.".
