Media Group No Longer Converts PDF
Seven hundred QuarkXPress 7 licenses have been bought by the Hersant Media Group in a deal that includes 550 licenses to upgrade all Hebdoprint's facilities.
The new licenses include 100 for the Hersant Media Group's paying press and French overseas territories Quark said that thanks to QuarkXPress 7's optimised PDF generation, Hebdoprint no longer needs to convert pages in to PDF files with a third-party application, which was a major factor for Hebdoprint since it generates 40,000 PDF documents per week

QuarkXPress 7 Built On Open Standards
Quark Inc will further its commitment to collaboration and inter-operability by building the forthcoming QuarkXPress 7 software on open standards.
QuarkXPress 7 was also the first software package of its class to offer compatibility with Intel-based Macs, added the company.
Charley Lecat, Hebdoprint's technical director, who analysed all available products before deciding on a collaboration with Quark, commented: "Compatibility with the Intel Macs was a determining factor in our decision.
Quark also certainly scored with its quick release of a version of QuarkXPress that could run under the Intel processors.
We also needed a reliable software package to process our volume of work, a package that focused on production as well as design and could be integrated in to our in-house editorial workflows." He explained: "We couldn't find anything better than QuarkXPress 7, particularly when it came to getting reliable PDF output - a key element in our production chain.
Removing Acrobat has simplified production and eliminated the cost of endless Adobe upgrades.
Also, quite apart from the technical problems any other system would have caused, we would have lost out on all the experience our staff has with QuarkXPress and we would have had to provide costly retraining." Hebdoprint is a subsidiary of the Comareg Production Group, a publisher of free advertising newspapers in France and a subsidiary of the Hersant Media Group.
The firm employs 700 people and manages, produces, and prints 256 newspapers and weekly journals, including Paruvendu, which is distributed nationally in France and French overseas territories.
The group creates 300,000 tabloid pages a year and distributes 17 million copies of its journals every week.
Gildas Duval, commercial director of Quark in southern Europe, said: "Hebdoprint's choice of QuarkXPress 7 as the best package for managing its publishing requirements and production workflows demonstrates that QuarkXPress is still the number one choice for page layout and design.
And Hebdoprint's loyalty to Quark proves that the company has taken the right direction in commercial policy and technological enhancements.".
