A growing number of the UK's leading universities have upgraded to QuarkXPress 7 as part of their on-going commitment to teach students the design skills needed to succeed in the digital world

Students in art, design and media faculties across the UK - including Leicester College, the London College of Communications, Sheffield Hallam University, Swansea Institute of Higher Education, University of Bedfordshire and University of Lincoln - are discovering why QuarkXPress 7 is fast becoming the design tool of choice in education and beyond.

There are a number of key factors driving this trend: an increased demand for QuarkXPress skills from employers within the industry; revolutionary new features in QuarkXPress 7 like Quark Job Jackets and Composition Zones, which have an enormous impact on the way students work; and Quark's increased commitment to the education sector with new student friendly pricing programs and curriculum materials.

The Lincoln School of Journalism is a school within the Faculty of Media and Humanities at the University of Lincoln which offers degree courses in journalism and its related fields of press and public relations.

"The Lincoln School of Journalism is committed to providing its students with a first-class academic experience, and provision of industry standard software is an important requirement", commented Geoff Thompson, media and broadcast manager at the University of Lincoln.

"QuarkXPress is a major productivity tool used in the publishing industry, and our upgrade to QuarkXPress 7 is evidence of our commitment to providing first-class resources for our undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional courses".

The National Printing Skills Centre (NPSC) is part of Leicester College and is the leading provider of unique professional training for the print and graphic communications industries in the UK.

"The feedback we are getting from our students is that QuarkXPress 7 is a very positive step forward for Quark", said Damian Breen, education officer at Leicester College.

"They feel that it is easy to use and are impressed with all the new features - in particular with Job Jackets, as it makes it easier for them to work together, optimise design, and minimise production errors".

"It is important that we work with the key industry players, and our relationship with Quark is instrumental in providing the latest technology to our students".

The University of Bedfordshire is the largest provider of undergraduate and postgraduate education in Bedfordshire.

Its art and design teaching is rated 'excellent' by the Quality Assurance Agency.

"The fact that Quark Interactive Designer comes with every educational license of QuarkXPress 7 means that students are now able to actively embrace interactive media and take their design not only to print but the Web as well", added Adam Procter, School of Media, Art and Design, University of Bedfordshire.

"This is an extremely important factor when students have limited time to learn software applications and therefore do not have the time to dedicate to learning a different set of software tools for each media".

"In addition, the increased level of support and commitment from Quark has been instrumental in our decision." "We are delighted to see more and more leading universities move to QuarkXPress 7, particularly ones of this calibre", said Mark Green, Quark education business manager, Northern Europe.

"Quark recognises the need to make education a priority and the importance of collaborating with universities to better understand their needs and the challenges they face".

"Quark is committed to developing software that will give students the skills that are essential to succeed in the design industry today".
