Centaur Communications Upgrades To QuarkXPress 7
Centaur Communications' UK design magazines, Creative Review and Design Week, have upgraded to QuarkXPress 7.
Creative Review and Design Week are currently designed and produced entirely in QuarkXPress 7 following a successful migration and that process is currently being replicated across Centaur's entire range of 30 magazine titles.
The design publications have a combined circulation of over 24,000 clpies.
Creative Review is said to be the world's leading monthly magazine for visual communications, with subscribers across 80 countries.
Declan Gough, the publisher of Design Week, said: "We upgraded to QuarkXPress 7 in response to the needs of the business.
We operate in an extremely competitive environment and are constantly looking for ways to improve quality and increase efficiency.
The company is saving considerably in terms of staff training and the time it would take to convert to an alternative product.
Also we wanted to continue using QuarkXPress, not just because we are familiar with the product, but also because we have always found it reliable and easy to use." He explained: "As a design title it is critical that we use the best design tools available.
Our readers are designers and creative people and expect the highest standards in design, so the look and feel of the magazine is paramount.
The rich features in QuarkXPress 7, in particular the enhanced drop shadows and transparency, give us more creative freedom and allow us to produce a higher design quality magazine." Gough continued: "In addition, QuarkXPress 7 provides powerful collaboration capabilities, with Composition Zones and the new Job Jackets technology.
Quark's Job Jackets enable us to set all of the design rules and specifications for the publication.
We then share them with our advertisers to ensure all advertisements adhere to our guidelines and to ensure design consistency and brand integrity across the publication." He added that Quark provides Centaur Communications with support throughout the process and the magazines' editorial teams, system administration and graphics and production departments were given in-depth training and production support.
Ed Ewing, sales director of Quark, Northern Europe, commented: "In opting for Quark, Centaur is benefiting enormously from the existing wealth of experience its workforce has with QuarkXPress.
It is a testament to the success of the implementation at Creative Review and Design Week that this will be rolled out across the organisation.
We are delighted to be working with such highly regarded design publications and together we can take layout and design to a new level for creative professionals.".
