Ghent PDF Compliance For Ads Workflow Software
Quickcut, the provider of digital advertising workflow systems, has achieved compliance from the Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG) for the latest version of its Quickprint workflow software.
Quickcut, the provider of digital advertising workflow systems, has achieved compliance from the Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG) for the latest version of its Quickprint workflow software.
Quickprint is now compliant with the GWG 2004 magazine advertisements and newspaper advertisements specifications for PDF/X-Plus files.
To achieve GWG compliance, an independent testing group checks files generated by a vendor's PDF/X creation software against expected results on more than 70 test criteria.
In addition, Quickprint has been certified by GWG for its ability to modify PDF files created in other applications and make those files compliant with GWG specifications using optimisation procedures Quickcut has built in to the new software.
In achieving GWG compliance, Quickcut believes that it is also taking the concept of specifications-driven workflow one step further.
By enabling publishers and printers to add a requirement for GWG compliance in their mechanical specifications, Quickprint users who create or validate files for those publishers or printers will automatically be creating and validating files that are Ghent PDF Workgroup compliant.
That is achieved through the synchronisation of those specifications with the Quickprint user's local database.
With the latest version of Quickprint, in addition to ensuring each file conforms to the full set of publishers' and printers' mechanical specifications, users will be able to validate job files to highly targeted, GWG-compliant print workflows.
Gavin Costello, manager for software quality assurance and documentation for Quickcut's advanced development group, said: "Publishers and printers increasingly are seeing the benefit of the valuable work the Ghent PDF Workgroup carries out to standardise PDF production and delivery.
Applications that are GWG-compliant assure advertisers and publishers that files they send to print conform to extra restrictions and rules to support different market segments, different output processes or different workflows.
We remain committed to the development of open standards that support these practical and product-specific applications." Peter Maes, GWG specifications sub-committee chairman, said that advertisers will benefit substantially as a result of Quickcut's initiative in adding GWG compliance to its global specifications database.
