Growing Welsh Firm's Second Place In Print Awards
An expanding printing business in the Vale of Glamorgan has beaten around 4,000 competitors to be named runner-up for an international award.
An expanding printing business in the Vale of Glamorgan has beaten around 4,000 competitors to be named runner-up for an international award.
RG Printing, in Llandow, is the first Welsh company in 10 years to be shortlisted for the James McNaughton Review awards.
At a ceremony in Marbella (Spain) on Saturday night, R G Printing's general manager, Andy Lewis, was present when the company was narrowly beaten to the award for best printed brochure, finishing ahead of strong competition from rival print firms, said RG.
The James McNaughton Review awards, backed by paper merchants McNaughton, are considered amongst the best in the printing industry, said R G Printing, which was runner-up after entering a diamond brochure it had produced for one of its clients, Print Direction.
Andrew Studley, managing director of R G Printing, said: "This recognition is a testament to what RG Printing has been working and striving towards for the last seven years and it shows how we have now arrived on the map in our industry.
The quality of this brochure, and its production, says a lot about where we are aiming to go.
This award is one of the best and coming as runner-up is a firm endorsement of our work." Studley (39) who runs RG Printing with his wife Carol, said over half a million pounds had been invested in the company last year and there would be more money going in to the business to continue the levels of excellence for which R G is being recognised.
He added: "We are now looking to see the benefits.
We are just beginning to scratch the surface of what we want to do.
In six months, there will be a new press in place and we will be looking to appoint more sales staff, which will hopefully lead to new markets.
We will be looking for large, blue chip PLCs as clients." The McNaughton Review awards short listing marks the latest high point in a busy 2007 so far for R G Printing, which has also just appointed David Parsons as pressroom supervisor to head up its press team.
Parsons will oversee the pending introduction of a new, 10-colour press at the company's premises on the Vale Business Park.
He has joined R G Printing from a senior position with Westdale, one of the largest commercial printers in Cardiff.
