Four of the five top performing and most environmentally-friendly mono multi-function devices (MFDs) are manufactured by Ricoh, according to an independent report.

Four of the five top performing and most environmentally-friendly mono multi-function devices (MFDs) are manufactured by Ricoh, according to an independent report by market research consultancy, Winmark.

The report ranks 25 machines from Ricoh, Kyocera Minolta, Canon, Xerox, HP and Toshiba on the basis of printing speed, quality and usability.

It also assessed environmental issues, including ozone, noise and energy consumption at Winmark's European test centre in London.

Every one of the four Ricoh Aficio 30 Series devices assessed were ranked within the top five places for overall performance, as well as environmental performance in Winmark's annual departmental mono multifunction report.

Ricoh said that the machines were rigorously tested according to Winmark's own measurement criteria for printing, copying, scanning, power consumption, noise emissions, ozone emissions and button presses.

John Jeffcock, chief executive at Winmark, said: "We aim to be as objective as possible when conducting the tests, using mechanical methods whenever we can.

Many machines failed the most basic environmental tests but Ricoh scored highly - not only on 'green' issues but on overall multi-functional performance," he added.

Chas Moloney, associate director of marketing at Ricoh, said: "A huge level of investment goes in to research and development at Ricoh, and it's great to see an independent report prove that point.

Our customers come first and our continuous innovation will guarantee they always get the highest quality products from Ricoh." He added: "Clearly it's important that this doesn't come with a cost to the environment and the report shows that Ricoh has the edge over its competitors in this area.".
