E W King and Co, the Essex (UK) flower and vegetable seed merchants, needed to upgrade its ability to print packets on demand with faster throughput and the ability to print up to a 90mm x 160mm area.

However, King's has to meet customer requirements for a range of over 1,000 varieties and by supplying its latest FF250 feeder and fitting one of its 100 packs per minute Bell-Mark thermal transfer printers with a print area of up to 127mm x 190mm, Rotech solved King's problem.

According to King's plant manager, Chris Phillips: "After surveying all of the options for new printing equipment at an NEC exhibition, we were able to whittle down the contenders to single figures quite quickly.

After more detailed investigation, Rotech was able to fulfil our requirements more satisfactorily than anyone else." He added: "Since installation, the machine has exceeded all expectations and the few teething problems were rectified quickly.

The approach and attitude of Rotech was extremely professional and of a very high standard, as was the machine over the competition." Rotech said that the machine's Versastyle software has allowed all the pack formats to be stored on a dedicated PC and with it has permitted large amounts of product information and graphics to be printed on to the packets.

Rotech said it supplied the complete system, including the correct grade of thermal ribbon to cope with the variety of packets, whilst maintaining a first class print quality.

Kings, which has been selecting and maintaining stock for over 100 years on its farm in Kelvedon, supplies seed on a wholesale basis to large users, commercial growers and to the home gardener, through its range of seed packets.
